Mainpuri is a city and a municipal board in Mainpuri district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Mainpuri town is the district headquarters. It consists of five tehsils, namely Mainpuri, Bhongaon, Karhal, Kishni and Ghiror. It is bounded on the North by Etah District, on the East by District Farrukhabad and Kannauj, on the South by District Etawah and on West by the District Firozabad and Etah. It lies between North Latitude 260 53′ to 270 31′ and East Longitude 780 27′ to 790 26′.It is the administrative headquarters of the Mainpuri district and is situated to the north-east of Agra and is 270 km from New Delhi. The distance from New Delhi to Mainpuri is 270 km and it takes 3 hours 44 mins to reach by road. Living up to its heritage of being a part of the mythical Braj Kingdom associated with the Hindu deity Lord Krishna, it is replete with temples devoted to various gods. Every year, at the beginning of the Hindu New Year in March or April, a twenty-day fair is held in the precincts of the Sheetla Devi Temple. The Falahari Ashram houses a statue of goddess Durga with 18 arms, and which is considered to be a rare idol. Another temple devoted to Lord Hanuman is considered to be very auspicious and is visited by thousands on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Mainpuri is also the home of the elegant bird crane, which is viewed as a symbol of marital fidelity in mythological stories. These beautiful birds are a pleasant sight and draw some nature lovers and bird watchers alike. Mainpuri also offers some modern marvels like the Phoolbagh and the LohiaBagh that are home to pristine beauty.

Mainpuri railway station is the nearest railway station. The closest civil airport is at Agra, which is 109 km away. From geographical point of view, Mainpuri is located in between 27.219004°N 78.936267°E

Accessibility

Mainpuri is well connected with other parts of the state by road and broad gauge railway so one can also visit Mainpuri by train. Currently, the only two trains are the Kalindi express and the Kanpur Anand Vihar express, which connect Mainpuri to Delhi and Kanpur. The city is also linked by railways to Farrukhabad and Shikohabad, Etawah and Kanpur. Major cities within a 300 kilometers range of Mainpuri include Agra, Delhi, Bareilly, Meerut, Firozabad, Shikohabad, Etawah, Gwalior and Kanpur.

The proposed Agra Lucknow Expressway will connect Mainpuri to Lucknow.
